An important milestone for Orcelle Horizon was reached in December 2025 as Oceanbird welcomed the crew of Tirranna to their the test-site in Landskrona for the inaugural training programme.

Over three days, the crew and leadership participated in practical, hands-on sessions covering sailing principles, basic maintenance, operational procedures, inspection routines and handling various special but common scenarios. They also had the opportunity to explore the machinery and structure up close, even seeing parts of their wing awaiting assembly and installation.

Why is this important?

In the wind propulsion industry, fuel savings are a frequent topic of discussion. Oceanbird provides general, vessel-specific, and route-specific calculations—but these numbers only matter if the crew feels confident operating the wing.

The knowledge shared during these sessions laid a strong theoretical foundation, helping crews understand situations where stowing the wing may not be necessary. Through scenario-based exercises, the programme introduced a framework that replaces guesswork with confidence in using the Wing 560.
